Yes, there is an update sprint planned.  Inkscape is going to move to 
version .48, so the idea is to get it up to date.

I, unfortunately, won't be able to come :(  But I (we) will be working 
on it until then so that, hopefully, a big chunk of the work will be 
complete by then.
