They are daft.  The standard is the standard.  But anyway I will look
at your gs solution.  Anyway:

Helvetica is probably not used.  It isn't in Mushon's CSS.  But
Courier is, and it is also a standard font that conforming PDF
software must assume is always there.

A work around would be to embed the font with @font, and call it
something else.
