hei flossy docsters

i've recently been invited by adam to run with the rolling ball of
audacity manual maintenance - so it's a pleasure to join the gang. i
think there's quite a few familiar faces here :)

for those who don't know me i can offer backgrounds in a lot of
different areas of audio production, sound design and broadcast
operations and have taught audacity as part of sonic arts and
technology courses in various places over the last few years so
hopefully i'll be able to build usefully on the superb manual that we
already have.

i'd also like to second adam's comments in his report about the
design. yay to lotte for the gorgeous graphics - most things i do are
a bit graphically challenged to say the least, so it's a treat to work
on something that looks so damn pretty too! i reckin the whole
look-n-feel are a big part of what makes these manuals so much more
inviting to read compared to just about any other floss documentation
i've ever jellywrestled with at the coalface of the commandline.

i might be in lurk mode for a bit because things are a bit hectic at
the moment and i'll be easing into things relatively slowly over the
next few weeks, but it's lovely to step into a project that's getting
such an enthusiastic response and hearing about the buzz at wikimania
really gives me a sense that there is an audience out there, so that's
pretty exciting and motivating.

the first two things i'm doing are familiarising myself with the the
editing environment and the publishing process building up an overview
of where audacity is going and what are the main priorities. thanks
brianna for that input about voice recording. please do pass on any
other wish lists items and feedback on the manual. i think that
looking at how to get the most out of audacity in different kinds of
audio projects might be an area to expand also - a lot of stuff that
is not audcity specific in some ways but applied to audcity and it's
specific foibles. also pretty excited to hear about possible hindi
localisation and will follow up on that in the next couple of weeks.

i'm sure i'll be asking some questions here soon!

:)
