hey all,

I will send a outline for the FM launch party for the 19th shortly.

In the meantime I am happy to say FM has some financial support to get
the Farsi translations up and running. This will include building
translation plugins for :
* management interface for the translation of twiki default and custom
interface elements (txt + images)
* translation workflow plugin for translating content

these developments will be undertaken by Aco, however we are looking for
someone to work with him. Aco knows FM very well of course so he can help
guide someone through it (as can I). Specifically we need a python coder
as we need to create a unicode PDF generator from reportlab python
libraries. We need this because current pdf generation is via htmldoc
which does not support unicode. The dream, and I think it is possible,
would be to make a PDF generator that could output nice looking PDF with unicode support for directly uploading to Lulu.com for
print-on-demand (this could then be also implemented for the remixing of manuals). The implications of this are pretty exciting.

...any python geeks wanting to take this on? Experience with reportlab would be nice but not necessary, however its fairly involved python. There is
also some money to pay for someone to do this...anyone interested or
know anyone that would be interested? If no-one from the list is interested I will approach a few people (not on the list) directly.

Also, we need to get on to finding a partner to translate the site and
manuals into Farsi. In the budget there is some income to pay someone to
find this individual or group. It has to be dealt with very fast - I
have some ideas of people that I would like to ask to start the search
but first I would like to put it to everyone on the list to see if anyone is
interested in this role. It would mean initially :
* writing PR to announce we are looking for this group/individual
* getting on email and the phone in search of this person/group
* putting together a general PR pack about FLOSS Manuals to send to
interested groups

To do this you must be a fluent English speaker and writer (mainly for writing the initial PR) and have the energy to search out and communicate with potential partners.

If anyone is interested in either the python coding or the Farsi partner
search then write to me off list.

The timeline is set for Dec to have everything ready so that the
translation/localisation group can get to work translating no later than
the beginning of next year, preferably much sooner.

So, if you also wish to update any manuals, the next weeks would be the
time to do it...specifically I think the Gimp manual needs at least a chapter on layers and the tool palette...anyone want to volunteer to write a chapter or two?

:)
