The US National Science Foundation is offering grants for research
related to innovation, creativity, science, engineering, and related
government policy.

They express a specific interest in metrics, data sets, and analytical
tools. Studies of open source, Web 2.0, or other software projects
might fit well.

The principal investigators have to be at U.S. colleges. The deadline
to apply is Dec 16, next week.

I don’t really have more information than that – just ran across it –
but feel free to ask.
