What William is referring to below is the Graphicsmagick library.
That's how I would do it.
I'd be happy to help write the script, though it shouldn't be too
difficult to look up how to do it with a few bash commands.
Let me know what it needs to do exactly, once you've figured that out.
How many images are there?
