[FM Discuss] producing streaming events

I'm glad you're keeping informed about rich media (besides text) because that's going to be an important way people want to deliver content, and therefore another area for FLOSS Manuals to branch out. Of course, the medium we use depends on the capabilities of the receiver: a small plain text book will be greatly appreciated by someone in Liberia with an intermittent connection, while a whiz kid growing up in the Netherlands will want a high-res video.

Subject: [FM Discuss] producing streaming events
hi,
just to say that we had a nice floss manuals centric workshop at
Transmediale (http://www.transmediale.de) and then the workshop
participants helped stream the event using entirely free software. we
generally used :
theora streaming studio (gui to dvgrab, ffmpeg2theora, dvgrab)
pitivi (theora editor)
ffmpeg (also for editing)
wget (for archiving)
open office (for subtitles)
icecast
cortado (embeded replay)
ubuntu
all going out in ogg theora of course
feb 19-21 i hope to get the participants together (in berlin) to write a
manual about how to do this. if anyone is keen to contribute remotely
let me know :)
