hey
the minisprint went extremely well. About 6 people turned up from the
workshop and wrote for 2 days. We have an outline for a great manual
about how to stream events using free software. It needs more work but
the basics are there and its good content.
The idea was to see if :
1. can writing a manual be part of a workshop process?
2. can we use a public space to write?
The answer to both these is YES it seems. We had a productive 2 days,
writing for just 5 hours a day. Having other people in the space wasn't
distracting, infact it made the sprint quite relaxed and informal. Also,
those that were attending the workshop formed the majority of the
writers and the contributions were great.
So...it was a great experiment. The manual was completed, but that wasnt
our aim - however there is a good base there now for someone else to
extend. Its much easier to complete a manual if there is existing
content than to start from zero...
The experiment made me wonder if informal FM sprints could be held
locally in cities around the world. Could this kind of sprint (which is
actually like a social get together with writing as a focus and excuse
to hang out) happen as a regular social activity. It might be that
writers could gather to contribute to different manuals...I think I
might try this - have a FM social event on the x day of every month at
the cafe where we did this one...I will ask around and see who would be
interested in getting this together...want to organise a regular one in
a town near you?
