hey
so...a brief update on what is stirring in FM at the moment...well, one
of the things I am enjoying is that there are some projects that are
starting up that I have no involvement with :) This includes an Ardour
manual and sprint organised by Derek Holzer at Worm (Rotterdam), the
discussion on the list about a command line 'tourist guide' and some
other interesting manuals (dspace, Wireless Sensor Networks, Kaltura and
others).
Also, on the subject of sprints...I have come to realise that there is
something to be gained from experience, so I will write more experiences
facilitating Book Sprints down for inclusion in the documentation for
the forthcoming Booki (there is some content alreeady available in the
FM Book Sprint manual but I want to restructure and improve it). The
inclusion of the Book Sprint material in Booki is intended to stimulate
more people to use Booki as a Book Sprint platform for the development
of any type of content. Booki doesnt have to be used for Book Sprints
(you could just write your own book by yourself using booki for
example)...but if you _do_ do a sprint it will be the only thing around
to support it effectively. Also...I am considering training Book Sprint
facilitation. I am not sure of the form for this this yet, but stay
tuned..
In addition to this, with the Google Summer of Code Mentoring Guide last
week I just completed something like my 16th Book Sprint facilitation.
The GSoC guide was especially interesting because it is one of the first
sprints to start a more serious deviation from procedural content
towards a more 'opinion based narrative'. This is something I am keen to
investigate further. In particular, I am trying to bring a very
interesting sprint together for early next year based on the topic 'The
Future of Free Culture' for the Transmediale Festival in
Berlin...hopefully I can post more about this in the next days...
Also, FM labs has been hard at work with Aco and Douglas working towards
a beta release of Booki in March 2010. Its coming along great, but a
long way to go. We may have a demo available sooner for the FM list, but
we want to tidy what we have up a bit first...
We are still chasing funds on this development. Archive.org and the OSI
are sponsoring it but we are still in need of more funds to get to the
1.0. If anyone has ideas then please let me know...
okedoke...thats all for now :)
