hi,

So...I am off for a weeks holiday from tomorrow and I wanted to post
here some news on a few things... First, there is a sprint coming up
that is quite interesting. Transmediale (tranmediale.de) has invited FM
to do a Book Sprint for their festival in Berlin. Transmediale is a
digital culture festival that happens every year in Berlin, it is one of
the biggest of its kind in the world I believe. The invite was quite
open, and so I suggested, since the theme for the festival is 'futurity'
to do a sprint on 'the futures of free culture'. A suitable topic for a
sprint i think...

Anyways, the date has yet to be set, but we are looking at the last
weeks in January. So far the invitation list has been sent out to a
small group of participants. We have a yes (pending dates) from :
Marta Pierano - writer and copyfighter from spain
Alan Toner - Steal this Film
Bob Stein - Founder, Future of the Book
Mike Linksvayer - Director, Creative Commons
Mark Surman - Director, Mozilla Foundation

with a 'maybe' from Erik Moeller, the Deputy Director of Wikimedia
Foundation. I have also invited Brewster Kahle (founder of Archive.org)
but no response yet.

Its all very tentative but exciting :) This will be an interesting
one!..I hope they can all come, but if not we can make up a good crew
with others :)

Since we have had a very interesting conversation on models for
contributing, I was wondering if we could generate some ideas on how
such a sprint could be conducted...its quite a new case for a sprint, so
it might take some pondering...

Second, Booki is coming along very well...we will have a preview
available soon. At this point we will also open the doors for testing
and bringing more developers in...

lastly, i was wondering how we might conduct an informal review of what
we all think of fm and how we are going. Since its our 1000th
birthday ;) i thought it might be an appropriate moment to consider what
is working and what isnt. I am not exactly sure how to go about
this...any ideas?...
