hi FM list,

just few short notes about Free Culture Forum

http://fcforum.net/

which was held in Barcelona from 30. oct till 1. nov.

(for all of you who are interested in that just announced 'the futures of
free culture' sprint and

all of you interested in free culture movement)

as some of you know, 60 -70 participants from all over the world gathered
there

to participate in FCForum, but more than participate they were very
determined to

make something; to produce something meaningful which

will have some impact on authorities and society.

(http://giss.tv/dmmdb/fcforum, here you can see most of the happenings
recorded and generally to feel that 'we will change the world, although it
will be hard battle' ambient)

so after 3 days of presentations (first day), 4 different workshops (legal
group, education group, hackers, p2p, - second day), and discussions and
conclusions (third day), they came up with this

'Barcelona Culture Forum - Charter for Innovation, Creativity and Access to
Knowledge'

http://wiki.fcforum.net/index.php?title=Final_Document/Summary

http://wiki.fcforum.net/index.php?title=Final_Document/Charter_%28Long_version%29

by exgae (organizers of forum) own words: 'the short version has to convince
unprepared politicians and also citizens, parents of students, artists,
newspapers or so. it doesn't to have to be generic as many other
declarations. the long version has to be very specialized and useful for
politicians and groups already open to listen to us - persons that don't
have to be convinced but have to have tools to work practically with, such
as activists or the European Community Commission of culture and the one for
consumer that already participate to the debate in barcelona and are open to
collaborate; or such as the WIPO that know the problematic and have to be
convinced with solid arguments.'

the charter is licensed as CC-BY-SA+GFDL, that means after the release,
anyone can take this and improve on this document.

people practically agreed on most issues, although as it is understandable,
coming from different backgrounds, some of them said that they can't defend
it 'line-by-line'.

it will be soon released on co-ment.net, so everyone will be able to comment
on the 1st version.

as one of the guy from hackers group said: this is only the beginning of the
document, but we must give birth to it, so it can reach adulthood. if we try
to reach perfection we will miss our chance, because it'll never be perfect.

so, do read the chapter and contribute!
