Hi all,
I've been invited to submit an article to Open Source Business
Resource online magazine (http://osbr.ca) on the importance of
documentation to the success of open source projects. I plan to
emphasize the importance of *open-licensed* documentation in
particular, with examples from FM and elsewhere.
Firstly, two projects that seem to fit well (for different reasons)
with the points I plan to make are Inkscape and CiviCRM. If you are
involved in the FM manuals for those projects and you're interested in
being interviewed for this article, please contact me off-list.
Secondly, if you're more involved with a different FM manual that you
think is a good case study, please let me know. Thirdly, if you know
of examples of FLOSS projects (not necessarily on FM) whose success
seems to be due in good part to good documentation, please point them
out to me (PHP and mySQL are two I've seen mentioned in this regard).
It seems like there's been a spate of article recently about open
source and documentation. It's great that the topic is finally getting
some attention. My challenge is to find something more to add to the
conversation. I appreciate any assistance.
Cheers,
Janet
