[FM Discuss] Discuss Digest, Vol 29, Issue 6 (Any possibility of getting rid of these dicussion digest E-mails for a forum?)

I have difficulty following the threads of messages in these digests.
I could with this were just a Forum where it is very clear who is
saying what and what the responses are. Also the chronology of the
responses is difficult to track.

For example: this is the first thing that confronts me when I open the
Discuss Digest. Then as i scroll down i see (i think) the original
message and all the responses. I see responses, to responses, to
responses.

Now if i click the reply link i sometimes get a blank form with no
subject line. Usually when i reply to an E-mail I see the original
subject and then in parenthesis i add the specifics of my reply. Some
repliers don't do this and as a result there fill up in the inbox
identical "RE: subject" With this E-mail based system, there is no
continuity or clear-cut beginning-end point.

Now if this were a forum, I could be in the default Threaded View and
Reply to the main subject topic. Or I could go to a Flat View and find
total text of each main topic reply entry, and then reply specifically
to a commenter.

Forums (at least some of them) permit selectively determining whether
the latest or the earliest entries will come up first. With a forum
that has gone on over the years this is important so you don't have to
go through multiple pages to find the latest post.

NOTE: The following came up when i replied (obviously I didn't,
though i could, delete it; many other posters didn't do it either. I
currently have an E-mail Mailbox with discuss-request at flossmanuals.net
dated from September 11, 2008 to the present. Wouldn't it be nice if
we just had a single forum to go to where the various topics and
replies were there just once.

Oh yes: I almost forgot--I will get a bounce E-mail and a follow up
that it was received (lost track). Forums permit you to check a
Tracking box so that any new reply results in an E-mail so I can look
at the forum.
