[FM Discuss] Texas Linux Fest

I'm still recovering from a busy weekend here in Austin, with the
Texas Linux Fest (TXLF) on Saturday, and a Firefox mini-sprint on
Sunday.

I heard that the total attendance at TXLF was about 350, which was
right on target for the organizers' estimate of 300-400. The Fest got
off to a bumpy start, with badges not able to be printed until 15
minutes after the doors were supposed to open, and a wired network
connection at our vendor table that never worked. However, things went
more smoothly for most of the day, and I was eventually able to get on
the wireless connection. The organizers seem pleased enough to be
thinking about doing it again next year.

Anne and I had planned to set up some FM books on Amazon CreateSpace
to print and take to sell at TXLF. However, that didn't get ironed out
in time, so Anne had copies made at a local print shop instead. More
expensive per copy, but actually ready in time for the Fest. She also
got a roll of 500 stickers printed, to give away.

Our table was at the back of the vendor space, near the ladies' room.
That was convenient for us, and didn't seem to reduce the traffic to
the table. We got lots of interest at the table, with a number of
people saying "I had no idea such a thing existed". So we have
definitely spread the word.

Our presentation on FLOSS Manuals was in the first time slot after the
opening keynote. There were three presentation spaces, and so three
tracks. The tracks were unlabeled, other than A, B, and C, but we were
in what appeared to be the less-technical track. I guess we had about
40 people in the room, but I didn't try to count. It seemed
well-received. We got a number of positive comments afterward; but
then, one rarely hears any negative comments.

I'll post another update about the mini-sprint, later when I have more time.
