Hi guys,

I am currently doing my bachelor thesis in Mediadesign/Mediaart at the
Bauhaus University Weimar.

I want to help to see free software as a real alternative to proprietary
solutions in schools and youthwork.
I know that there is a lot of stuff online, but unfortunately, most of it in
English, which in these parts of
Germany, many teachers don't understand.

My work is divided in three parts:

- The Operating System
I will develop a System based on (L)Ubuntu or puredyne, which runs on old
machines (Pentium III/IV class)
and can be used in creative work and media education. I am going to install
it in a school or youth club
and document the reactions of the teaching personel.

- The Web Platform
To ensure the sustainability of the project, I will create a website
including a mediawiki, where teachers,
youthworkers and software developers can collaborate on the documentation of
free software.

- The Movie
In the Movie "Voices for free foftware in media education", developers and
users of free software answer the
question, why (if?) the usage of free software in education is possible and
makes sense.

First of: Is anyone interested in helping out? Do you have existing projects
/ people in mind that could be
interesting? If any of you are willing to give me an interview (and are
living in Europe), I'd be glad to come
by.

For the web platform, I do not want to reenvent the wheel, so my plan is to
point to sites like FM wherever
I can. Unfortunatly, I can not find any german manuals here, so if there
really are none, I'd be willing to
translate some of them.

Please tell me what you think.

Greetings
Simon
