hey
so....i have been offline a bit running around doing this, doing
that...off the this n thats there are 2 that might interest fm-ers
number 1 is...well, you might have heard we got booki into the Drumbeat
Open Web Award...ok. Thats great news! Well, now we need to get votes
since there are 3 projects we stand a very good chance to win the 5000
cash (which we will use for a code sprint)
so...if you want to vote go here:
http://www.drumbeat.org/project/open-web-publishing
register and vote!
and please spread the word and get others to do the same. we need as
many votes as possible...
ok..number 2 ...i have been working on a project for Drumbeat. FM should
have a presence there and so I slipped some proposals to a few people
not knowing if they would be into it or not but i thought i should give
it a best shot although that was tricky as i have been working hard
renovating and moving recently :) (and i also had a german visa
application this week to attend to which i just found out today was
successful :) . Apparently Mozilla, CiviCRM, francophonie.org and
iCommons thought it was a good idea and so I am happy to announce the
first ever FLOSS Manuals Book Mobile!
Its basically a van full of the stuff you need to make books, modelled
on the archive.org book mobile:
http://www.archive.org/texts/bookmobile.php
i will drive it to drumbeat (and to other events after drumbeat and in
2011)...
i will work with some fm friends in barcelona and we will make and give
away free manuals on free software...i am hoping to give away 300 in 3
days. that might be optimistic but lets see how it goes. i also hope we
will have enough people locally to translate a book or two to
spanish/catalan at drumbeat using booki and make those books immediately
with the book mobile...
i will send more info on the book mobile. its an exciting project both
for fm and for promoting free software... i hope others might consider
copying the idea - it would be good to have a fleet of fm book mobiles
for promoting free softwares at events...park it outside your local
expensive and exclusive proprietary software event and give away free
manuals on free software! (we can give away any info on free software,
not just books...)
so....anyways....fm book mobile #1 is forthcoming...i will fwd more info
as we get it together.
:)
