Rebecca,

It might be a good idea to try giving one image a transparent
background to see if that clears up the "border" problem.  I also
think that the images should be at the size they are displayed in.
The GIMP does a much better job of resizing images than a web
browser's IMG tag can.  I know that much from experience.  I also
think the default "Books" image is a bit larger than I'd like.  It
should be about the same dimensions as the others.
