I just got this reply from someone on the Manchester Linux user group and I
thought I would share my response.
Mind you I just found this which is pretty useful too.

Hi there,

Thanks for replying.

The license for the Codex is great (GPL) -that's what we use too (phew) -
but it's not quite the same as what we are tring to achieve.

As a summary, we are looking for

- a good intro for beginners
- to make it concise
- and to make it available easily in different formats
printed book, epub, open office document, html to embed in other websites
- specialised docs towards new users, changing the look, creating a
community

Our guide is partly aimed at beginner users who are using wordpress.com as
well.
The reason I'm working on it is that I expanded on an existing manual to
make hand outs for my students when I was working doing a lot of training at
a community media centre.

I tried to find something similar on wordpress.org in the codex but this is
all I could find - http://codex.wordpress.org/Getting_Started
which i guess you would agree is not a great place to get started really.

I think that it's much better for developers who I think are the real
audience for the codex. I think it would be a good idea to use some of the
stuff on the codex for the more advanced stuff like creating a network.

I'll try to make it along tonight to the meeting tonight anyway!
