I vote YES++ on this one. Currently we have to maintain two platforms
and it means that the admin tasks take twice as much time, and the
learning curve for tweaking the web site is horrible since you need to
know PHP for Bookipublisher and Python for Booktype.
Also I like the idea that new readers would see the manuals on a
writing platform with a big EDIT button, so that they become instantly
aware that it is a collaborative writing platform and not just a
library of free manuals somebody has written for some strange reason.
In some ways the idea of having "officially published" manuals doesn't
work for the Finnish site, since some of them still need somebody to
come and proofread them, and on the other hand the oldest ones are
already in need of an update. So the status of manuals is often more
like "needs proofreading" or "needs an update" instead of "completed".
Which means it would be cool to direct readers straight into the
writing platform.
Then again Booktype would need some tweaking to work as a reading
platform. I don't know if the changes would actually be so big, there
should be a front page with a list of manuals divided into categories
like there is on the current FM front page and it should have a
downloadable PDF version and a printable full text version like
Bookipublisher has. And maybe additional metadata about the status of
the manuals. I wonder if the current development version of Booktype
already has these things?
