the contribution was made, only the size of the contribution. Copyright
extension laws mean that for practical purposes, copyright lasts forever
(we probably won't live to see anything written today go out of
copyright, unless the law is radically reformed).
Forking a project, adding a few lines and taking the original authors
name off is not good. People have done this by renaming Audacity (or
just hiding the name in screenshots) and selling it as a CD-R on eBay.
