Mick that is an awesome story. That is proof of an open and unregulated system right there.
So why do we need markets and business?

who copied the PDFs, posted them on Lulu under their own account, and
kept the profits. The general response was: too bad they're not
supporting the project, but at least people are buying the books and
getting help.
I work in a community garden in Manchester, it's between two rows of flats right near the junction of two motorways anyone can walk through it. There are some great apple trees and fruit bushes there.
There a few of us that maintain it with help from others on community days and at workshops.
I was surprised that lots of people who do nothing in the garden, and who sometimes walk and cycle from miles away come and pick the fruit. I struggled with this a bit at the beginning. But now when other volunteers get angry at these people I try to gently suggest that this is the nature of an open access garden and you can either enjoy the fact that our work is providing eatable benefits for other people or basically you can stop and try to build a fence around it or move out into the enclosed suburbs.
So now I enjoy it when people come and pick fruit and have a chat with them to see where they are going next. They often tell me about a cherry tree that is in full fruit a mile away, or some pears in someones garden in Whalley Range that never get picked.
This is a true story by the way not just an analogy.
However I'm not saying that people's fear of getting ripped off isn't valid. Let's face it a lot of us live in a pretty sheltered environment.
BTW - I think that this debate about attribution and non-commercial use is good if we can use examples of us and project we know and if we can involve more members of this community. I think learning to really love free & GPL can be a bit of a journey and sometimes it's nice to share that.
nice one
Mick
