English was GPL. So that seems most appropriate...

Pretty much finished this translation, although the pictures and screenshots should be changed into Finnish ones: http://fi.flossmanuals.net/internet-tietoturvan-perusteet/

English version was 244 pages and after mobile and VPN stuff was dropped the Finnish one is 190 pages.

English version doesn't seem to have a license text? Which one should I put into the Finnish one, GPL or CC-BY-SA or something else?

Finnish FM is likely to be quite silent until the next collaborative writing projects start around September.

We are going to have one in the Tampere University technical documentation course just like we did in 2010. Now I just don't know which new open source manual we could actually write in Finnish. It should be a common end user program, but there should not be an English manual available somewhere, since it would be a lot easier to translate one from English rather than to write a new one.

Hi Tomi,

I was one of the original team of the basic internet security book. The book is just over a year old, and some parts are updated. At this point in time I should get rid of the pgp and webmail chapter, also the mobile devices chapters should get care although I would suggest moving them to a different title al together.

There are also people walking around with the idea of updating the book in a new booksprint, but no concrete date or setting is set.

Cheers,

Sacha

Hey,

The GIMP manual was outdated before the translation project went anywhere. So now the next option would be to translate the Basic Internet Security manual: http://en.flossmanuals.net/basic-internet-security/

The background to this is that a Finnish journalist published a book about Internet and Freedom (http://www.intokustannus.fi/kirja/verkko_ja_vapaus/), which covered a lot of the stuff included in the Basic Internet Security manual, but didn't contain any more specific technical information about anything. So based on our conversations something like this would be urgently needed in the Finnish language.

So what I would like to ask from the participants of that booksprint is...

Do you think that the manual is currently up to date? Is there a need to update anything? People have been updating it quite recently and the version imported into the Finnish site contains the updates... So it is probably OK to just translate straight on?

Are the participating organizations in some international networks, so that it would be possible to approach the local branch when the time comes to update the translation?
