I don't think the intention was to to lose the translation feature. I
believe the old translate.flossmanuals.net site was running some custom
version.

When updating a translation it's very helpful to have highlighted diffs
in a side-by-side workflow. It's possible to use two browser windows for
this, but having to scroll them independently is not as convenient.

As for the translation of Booktype itself, that is ongoing:
