the backend uses wkhtmltopdf at present for pdf generation (including 
book formatted pdf)

but that will be replaced by the new renderer we are working on

important to note that there is no tool that can do what we can do. 
there is PrinceML which is a proprietary system AND it not support 
javascript and other cool stuff
