Hi all,
Hope you don't mind the use of the list, wanted to give this to the FM community before we announce publicly :)
We’re looking for a freelance technical writer to help our team with documenting Superdesk and the frameworks it is based on...
Superdesk is our forthcoming open source software to manage a newsroom's content ingest, process and output. At the heart of Superdesk is Ally-Py, a rapid development Python framework. The architecture of Ally-Py means that enterprises can combine news Apps (for liveblogging, print design, web publishing, etc.) on the same platform. Overall, this combination forms Superdesk.
We need a talented writer who can help people develop newsrooms with Superdesk or build applications on top of Ally-Py. To help them do this we hope to produce
• ‘How To’ guides
• ‘Hello World!’ code examples
• API documentation
• Further technical documentation
The majority of this work will live on our wiki, but may also form part of our manuals and GitHub README files.
These are the qualities that the right person for the role will have...
• Able to read object oriented code in the following languages: Python (this is the important one) & Javascript
• Good research capabilities: able to gather information from different sources to come up with better documentation
• Excellent written English (spot the typo in this description!), with a clear and concise style.
• Experience in documenting APIs and ‘How To’ guides
• Interviewing and listening skills: you need to know how to ask the right questions and take notes
• Ability to plan and structure hierarchies of content
• Some illustration and design skills would be a bonus
• Good problem-solver, planner and organiser
• Able to handle pressure and able to multi-task whenever necessary
• Able to follow brand and style guidelines, and add to them where necessary
Candidates should send a CV, an example of their writing and freelance rates to me with jobs at sourcefabric.org in cc.
Look forward to hearing from you! Feel free to ping me directly with questions.
Best, Adam
