Mick..Mick...Mick...You should really read official install
documentation and not FLOSS Manuals (just because it is more up to
date).

Django configuration has changed over time and this setting depends of
the version you use. Current auto generated configuration works fine
with <=1.4 (that is why it uses specific version) but for 1.5 you need
to manually change something. That "something" is add "/" at the end
of the URL. Error message should be your first clue :)
"django.core.exceptions.ImproperlyConfigured: If set, MEDIA_URL must
end with a slash ". The best thing would be to read official Booktype
install doc or read release documentation for Django 1.5 and check
what has changed.
