hi mick -

thanks for the feedback. i am myself teaching at a university of music
(hmtm hannover), so i know that there are a lot of people using and
teaching open source software for audio. the linux audio conference
(next week in graz) is probably the main forum.

i try to promote flossmanuals wherever i can ...=) --- and not because i
think i should be a missionary but because it is a really great and
interesting experience which i want to share and discuss with others.
end of juin there will be a meeting of all german/austrian/swiss
electronic studios in music universities at zkm karlsruhe, and i will
have a talk there about the csound floss manual as an example for a
collaboratively written online textbook.

i really appreciate what adam did in creating this platform, and what
all admins and other people do to maintain it and improve it.

this said, i may also append some critical words. mainly, i sometimes
miss some communication and reliability. for instance, when we finished
working on this release and i went to the flossmanuals.net/admin.php and
pushed it to publish, nothing happened the next days. fortunately, helen
had the same problem, so i knew (but only because of her mails to the
list) there was an issue. but apart from some "we will check" i did not
know anything. ten days later i asked again. then at least some more
information because of the various list reactions, but i still had no
idea whether this could be fixed soon or i had to wait for a month or
so. i started a talk with my csound floss manual co-admins whether we
should consider to move to another platform. then suddenly somone said:
oh the new release is there! i got no notification, nothing.

i completely understand if there are issues. but i'd love to know more
about these issues. if things are happening in a way like this, i become
frustrated, because we are depending on this platform when we put our
manual here.

as another example, i told adam about my future talk at zkm about the
csound floss manual, and that i'd like to tell something about
flossmanuals and its history in general, and whether we could perhaps
have a talk about this. no reply. perhaps my email got lost, or he is
too busy now, i understand, but many little events lead me to the
impression that there could be some improvement here, if i may say this
word: in the culture of communication, of listening and answering.
perhaps there are some structural problems behind - it is somehow
strange to read something like "you owe me ten thousands euro" ...

to come back to the bright side: thanks again for the feedback, mick,
and perhaps i can ask you something about flossmanuals background for my
talk at zkm. i will write you off-list.

best -

	joachim
