Hi all,<br>Exciting! And thanks for the vote of confidence. I'm sure
you all surpass my domain knowledge since I haven't installed any build
past 653. Yet. :)<br><br>Couple of things - I'm on jury duty 8/18 to
8/22... but I'm actively recruiting for you if you do end up having it
outside of Austin. You could celebrate a b-day very well here in
Austin, though it'll be downright hot on 8/21. :) It's not that I
wouldn't love to visit OLPC, but I am reluctant to travel...it's just
that I've traveled enough this year. I know it's crazy to bypass such
an opportunity! If you do have it at OLPC, I'll certainly participate
from Austin and take the time off of work, and be on IRC whichever week
you choose, as long as jury duty doesn't conflict. I can scout out
locations here, too, just in case.<br>
<br>Also, thinking about the Aug. 10th date as a potential deadline -
my thinking is that it'll be better to get an event going than try to
hit a date like August 10th. The only consideration is whether this
version would go ON an image, then we'll need something by 8/10, and
I'd love to hear what minimally could be sent on the 10th. Perhaps some
additions to the current doc would be useful for the "boot up" doc I've
seen discussed.<br>
<br>I've got a few additional possible names to add to the list. I know
each of these folks personally and have emailed them to get a sense of
whether they could participate or not. <br><br>Oh! And no need to
judge "better" writers - you're qualified by your interest, I say! It
won't be easy to get people's schedules to match up, no matter how hard
we try. :) But at least there's fewer plane tickets, possibly, if we
get a few Texans? <br>

for talking to book publishers, hopefully I'm not speaking out of turn,
but Adam and I have been in contact with Andy Oram at O'Reilly, who
serves on FM's board, and I spoke to Catherine Nolan (another O'Reilly
editor for the Head First series) at SXSWi about publishing
possibilities. If we get a really good, solid, 250-page or so PDF out
of this, I bet we have a book proposal we can write after the fact and
try to fast track. :) We've also considered asking if LuLu.com would be
interested in free print runs, which is a great publishing possibility
as well. <br>
<br>Greg, awesome that you can try to get tix funded by Red Hat. I'll
work on a couple of ideas for funding from the tech comm community
also. <br><br>Um, hopefully I haven't left anything out. I am loving this idea and how it's shaping up!<br><font color="#888888">

The Big question is would Adam and Anne feel comfortable running the sprint on OLPC's turf. Adam and Anne are the domain experts. We need to give them the room to leverage the OLPC effort and enthusiasm against FM's experience.<br>

I will gladly step aside to let a better writer take my spot;)<br>

Funding - Between $500 - $1250 per person.<br>
I'll do the leg work, but cold calls from dfarning won't be worth much;(<br>

Let me see if I can squeeze some cash out of Red Hat. Adam will likely be the tough ticket.<div class="Ih2E3d"><br>

Talking to book publishers-- Is FM interested in going that direction?<br>
<br>
How about setting a tentative date for Aug 16-23?<br>

My birthday is August 21st. I'd love to spend it in Boston. ;)<br><font color="#888888">
