well, FLOSSify 1 : Digital Foundations is complete. 2 days squatting<br>
Eyebeam in NYC eating Pizza and drinking this terrible coffee out of<br>
cardboard boxes, and we are all done. There are a few tweaks but pretty<br>
much we converted the 400 or so page book to FLOSS.<br>
<br>
We almost mapped the software 1 to 1 with just one exception replacing<br>
the FLASH sections with Processing.<br>
<br>
It was great fun. At any one time we had about 6 people there with a<br>
peak of about 12. Some walked in because they had heard of it through<br>
friends, others came because they had been following FM for sometime and<br>
decided to contribute, others I or the Digital Foundations authors had<br>
invited directly. We met some very cool people and set in motion<br>
possibilities for more collaborations.<br>
<br>
Chris Blount came to help out and did a fantastic job with the Inkscape<br>
chapters...amazing work - Chris and Joshua (from the Inkscape Book<br>
Sprint team) hit it off and will hopefully work together in the future<br>
on the Inkscape manual. Hans-Christoph Steiner came for an evening - hes<br>
one of the main PureData programmers - and we had a great discussion<br>
about Dereks PD manual. Hans uses it for teaching so we are looking to<br>
get some people together to work with Derek to finish the manual (I'll<br>
email you about this Derek).<br>

Rory Solomon came in at just the right moment and as NYCs resident<br>
Processing guru, he sat down and wrote most of the Processing chapters<br>
with Becky Heritage and Mel Chua. Mel was there for the whole 3 days<br>
having bussed in from Boston :))<br>

Anyways...it was a fantastic group of people.<br>
<br>
So, we will tweak the manual and then tomorrow send out some emails to<br>
alert people that its good to go.<br>
<br>
So we finished at midnight this morning and 730am I was registering at<br>
the OReilly conference. Now I am in the OReilly conference first seesion<br>
and it looks a bit scary. Its in Times Square at the Marriot and it<br>
looks very conservative and expensive so far. I got  a free ticket for<br>
doing a 5 minute lightening talk tomorrow (good deal!). At the moment<br>
the panel is full of very business looking people and they are about to<br>
talk about copyright...i think this the wrong room for me...i'll give it<br>
5 minutes and see what happens...anyways...its a long way from beer and<br>
pizza at Eyebeam. I'll send a report about the conference at the end of<br>
the 3 days.<br>
