I wouldn't say you're in the weeds. Part of the overall translation workflow should have notifications in it, that is a good suggestion.

I agree that these are separate types of requests - Vik's is a request for a particular manual to be set up so he can start working on it, Steve's is a request for work suggestions.

Vik's request is taken care of.

I've emailed Steve in a second response with ideas for how to start working on a manual. Sorry, it was my oversight not to change the subject line. Please feel free to offer more suggestions to Steve.

Thanks,
I see cross-responses here.

As I understand it, there were requests to set up a translation project.
They weren't looking for 'something to work on', they wanted to get translation started on a particular manual for a particular language.

Once that translation is set up, it's up to those interested to start doing the translation work. It is (or should be) self documenting that the translation is available for work,.once it is set up.

Or am I totally our in the weeds?

About a month ago I asked for a translation to be set up. Nothing
happened. Last week I asked again. No replies. I know the project I'm
working with isn't the most important thing in the world, and everyone
is busy etc etc, but there seems to be a serious process issue here.
This sort of response (or lack thereof) _will_ turn off potential
contributors, and is not the way to build a community. Perhaps there
is only a small number of people with the credentials to create a new
translation, and they are all busy, well, a short reply to that effect
would be a good start. Even better would be giving more people the
power to set these things up, or having a good look at the
workflow/process that goes on here.

Flossmanuals seems like a worthy project, but I have a document
(already up on flossmanuals) and a ready-to-go translation that I need
to start directing people to. Waiting over a month for that to happen
seems a bit of a stretch, so for the time being I'm investigating
other places to put this manual (wikibooks perhaps)

Cheers,
Hi,

I send this message a few weeks ago asking for someone to set up an
Indonesian translation spot for the Plumi manual. I haven't heard back
from anyone.

What is the process for getting a translation set up, and might it be
time to re-think that process given that I've seen other translation
requests ignored? Not a great way to build a base of contributors.

ciao
someone please create Plumi_id in translate.flossmanuals?

Cheers,
