We are applying for funds to facilitate a meeting of members of the Floss Manuals community in Berlin late September early October 2011

This is a key meeting in the life of the Floss Manuals community as the founding member, Adam Hyde, is looking to decentralize how the website and community are run. To do this we need a face to face meeting to plan the future of this vibrant and productive online community.

FLOSS Manuals is a collection of manuals about free and open source
software together with the tools used to create them and the community
that uses those tools. They include authors, editors, artists, software
developers, activists, and many others. There are manuals that explain
how to install and use a range of free and open source softwares, about
how to do things (like design) with open source software, and manuals
about free culture services that use or support free software and
formats.

At this vital meeting we will look at some of the themes that have emerged during the forging of the online community, these include;

* decentralizing maintenance and admin tasks and putting in place documentation to facilitate this process
* evaluating and brainstorming about our organizational structure
* working out what funding is needed for core project worker/s and putting a strategy in place to obtain it
* evaluating the scope of the current project and the interaction between areas of paid and voluntary work
* audit of what current participants want from the site and what they are willing to offer
* sharing knowledge about how to run a book sprint (for more info on booksprints see http://www.booksprints.net)

We aim to keep the costs of the gathering low by choosing low-cost accommodation and keeping food costs low. However due to the decentralised and international nature of our community the majority of costs are likely to be transport.

Our Estimated costs are

Accommodation
????

Food
????

Transport
???
