Hi,

I filled the Doodle form a couple of days ago. I however need to go to Africa ASAP and still don't have a schedule, but I think that it almost certainly has to be before the proposed dates for the Berlin meeting.

Let me just write down a couple of points for the meeting I think are the most important that come into my mind:

First of all I think that a smaller language community like Finnish would have a very hard time getting even started without having available the support of the larger international network. For an example there would be a need to translate a few manuals in order to get a proper site running and only then it would be time to think about more advanced things like booksprints. Which is why I hope that there are not any too radical changes.

Second thing is that for the Finnish FM the most important thing is to have more booksprints and also to move them into the direction of extreme booksprints, although in many cases the less intensive version might still be very useful here. I also think that many Finnish developers might want to do a booksprint in English, which means we should probably write it on Finnish FM and publish it on English FM.

(I was just thinking about which job/hobby would be similar to facilitating intensive booksprints and came up with the role of a RPG GM. Both can be seen as forms of collaborative storytelling, so they are actually surprisingly similar. Though I think that GM would typically be a lot "bossier" role.)

Also there were some other points I've been thinking about, such as:

- How to make it easier for readers to actually start editing?
- Anybody ever try to do a spontaneous editing sprint without any theme, just updating, proofreading and editing at random?
- What would be a good way to use social media since Diaspora is not ready?
- Collaboration with other wiki-like documentation projects and FLOSS / open content in education projects in general...
- What to do if somebody wants to use the FM Booki for something else than FLOSS documentation?
- How to prioritize translations since it seems hard to predict which manuals are actually needed?
- There would be a need for some kind of a system to indicate the status of a manual on the front page of FM, at least if it is badly in need of an update?
- There would be a need for some centralized graphic design such as SVG logos, link banners for other FLOSS sites to add and stuff like that?
- There seems to be a need for a new version of a FLOSS Manual about FLOSS Manuals?
- What to do if somebody wants to use a strict style guide since Read Me First! hasn't been translated into Finnish?
- Generally increasing the amount of collaboration between Finnish and international FM...
- Some technical issues that will actually be almost certainly solved before the meeting...
- etc. etc. etc.

Regards

Tomi

2011/8/11 Janet Swisher <jmswisher@gmail.com>

With 8 respondents so far, here are the dates with the most positive responses:

* 8 yeses: Oct 3, 4, 5
* 6 yeses, 1 if-needed: Oct 1, 2
* 6 yeses: Sept 29
* 5 yeses, 2 if-needed: Sept 30
* 5 yeses: Sept 27, 28

If we need 3 days, then they should be Oct 3-5. If we need 5 days,
they should be Oct 1-5.
