<div class="PlainText">Wow, yes. That chapter is weird, and looks rather outdated. The normal<br>
way would be to visit the software center or whatever they call it (I<br>
think it has a shopping bag as an icon, and is available right on the<br>
default desktop), enter the search term 'audacity', then select it from<br>
the list and click on 'install'... Looks a lot fancier than synaptic<br>
(which is still available, though).<br>

Or to just open a terminal and type the one-liner<br>
sudo apt-get install audacity<br>
then enter your password, when asked for it.<br>

With Ubuntu 16.04, this will currently give you Audacity 2.1.2-1, not<br>
sure what the most current version is, but I'm sure there's also a ppa,<br>
or a flatpak, or a snap. Or all of those (and they will have the most<br>
recent version, and might even be available in the software center by<br>
default - I'm on Linux Mint, so things are a tiny bit different, but I<br>
regularly start Ubuntu in a virtual machine for trying stuff out).<br>
