# FSF & FLOSS Manuals Book Sprint

The Free Software Foundation and FLOSS Manuals are joining forces to
write a new book introducing newbies to the command line. Join us as
we sprint to write and release a book within two days!

At the forthcoming LibrePlanet conference
(<http://groups.fsf.org/index.php/LibrePlanet2009>), we will provide
the space and technology to collaboratively write the text. Everyone
attending the event is welcome to contribute. The FLOSS Manuals
platform is easy to use, so we encourage you to help us help make
the world of the command line more accessible to newbies by dropping
in and writing something about your favorite GNU/Linux command, or
your favorite script.

You can help with even just 45 minutes, but if you have more time
than that, we welcome more elaborate contributions about how to
write basic scripts, explanations of piping commands, or an
introduction to regular expressions (and other topics). If you would
like to contribute to this level of explanation then put aside some time
to see us at Libre Planet.

If you would like to contribute to the book before the event then please
register at http://www.flossmanuals.net/register and the manual will be
available from http://www.flossmanuals.net/bin/view/CommandLineIntro 1
week (March 14) before the event.

For more information or to email us your contribution ahead of time then
contact us at <adam at flossmanuals.net>.

The manual will be available online for free immediately after
LibrePlanet finishes, and will be for sale in book form from the FSF
web site (<http://shop.fsf.org>). All proceeds from the sales of the
book will go towards a second event to create another great book
for free software.

Help us help others learn the basic necessities of surviving and
thriving on the command line. All are welcome -- bring your laptop
and your favorite command or script to:
