[FM Discuss] feedback on the fm (booki) workflow

Adam,

I have been using my own Booki for a few months now. I've been
writing a book with it, and I also documented what I had to go through
to get it set up in my FLOSS Manual "E-Book Enlightenment".

A few months ago on the Booki Blog there was a post suggesting that
Booki was going to be much easier to install. I haven't heard
anything about that since, and I'm definitely interested.

You already know about my suggestions on making Kindle-Store ready
MOBI files by making improvements to the EPUBs that are currently
generated. While we're at it you could find out the requirements for
EPUBs on the Nook. I would assume that like the Kindle they would
want a cover image and a linked TOC.

I've been using Sigil to prepare a public domain book for the Kindle
Store. One thing that Sigil does really nicely is make it easy to
split content into chapters. That would be a good feature for Booki
to have, especially if you're correcting EPUBs automatically generated
by the Internet Archive.

On my local Booki I've had intermittent problems where you try and
edit a page and the edit buffer comes up empty. You can resolve this
by clicking on the Cancel button, refreshing the contents page, and
selecting the chapter again. The problem is that there is no
indication that you should do this. The software should show a
message box when there is a problem connecting to the database, rather
than just failing silently as it does now.
