[FM Discuss] help with image creation

I wanted to make this in gimp:

using another cover. I have a flat png of the other cover and i have the 
.psd files sent from the designer. however i dont and wont use 
photoshop...anyone out there able to recreate this sort of thing in gimp 
or blender or something? i need a template so that when we make a new 
book i can do this each time easily...

it needs to be a transparent png with a drop shadow...just exactly as 
this one is
