hey!
All this sounds really good. Great news that you are pushing all this
forward.
On the translation - is Ravikant interested in localising the Audacity
manual or the FM site? Either is very good news, but on the site-side we
have some excellent tools now for translation - both site localisation
and translation of manuals. Do you know which he is considering?
As for the Audacity app translation - the info is here:
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/community/translation
The .po files can be edited with an offline tool or via something like
Pootle - http://pootle.wordforge.org/
I have a little info on how .po files work in the fm manual :
http://en.flossmanuals.net/FLOSSManuals/LocalizeIntro
Essentially .po files are text files with strings that you translate.
The app replaces the source lang with the translated equivalent on the
fly. So making a new translation only requires a new .po file put in the
right place (it doesn't need to be compiled into the app).
And as for the additions to the Audacity manual - I would be keen to
help. I'll be offline for 3 weeks, but after feb 15 or so I can
contribute. Do you have an idea of what content you are going to add?
:)
